Desmond Lee, former owner of Lee-Rowan in Jackson, donates thousands of dollars to St. Louis charities each year. The Southeast Missourian asked, "What local charities or organizations would most deserve some money if Lee were to turn his attention to Jackson?"
Mary Ryner: "It would be nice if Mr. Lee donated money to beautify the city, such as the parks. Also, women's organizations such as the American Business Women's Association and others are active with helping people and giving scholarships."
Loretta J. Atkins: "I'm a member of the Suburban Garden Club, and I think we could use money to plant more trees and flowers in the parks. We could use more rose bushes, too."
Terri Rapp: "I think something like Project Charlie in the schools for the `say no to drugs' program would be a worthwhile cause."
Lois Brougher: "It would be good to help the churches that would use it to help needy people with food and clothing."
Mary Crites: "I think some programs to help the children would be good. Perhaps a place for them to go and do things."
