The Southeast Missourian asked people why they like to attend concerts by the Jackson Municipal Band at the Jackson City Park. The band plays during the summer on Thursdays beginning at 8 p.m.
Doris Jones: "I like music and we meet old friends at the concerts. I think Jackson has a beautiful city park. I try to come every time I can. I got into the habit of coming when my son played in the band when he was in high school."
Pink Hutson: "We have two grandsons who usually play in the band. They play saxophones. I've been coming to the concerts for a few years. I like a good, lively tune. I get here early for a choice seat and to talk with friends."
Alene Proctor: "I like the music and visiting with friends. I have a son-in-law who plays trumpet in the band. I like the fast music including polkas and marches. I also like country music."
Debbie Wortmann: "I like it because I played clarinet in the band in high school, so I follow the different instruments during the concert. It's the summertime thing to do. I also know some of the musicians in the band."
Jeremy Wachter: "I went through the band program at Jackson High School, and I kind of miss the music. The concerts in the park help me to relive some of the times I had in high school, and it helps me to remember things I did with my friends."
