The Southeast Missourian asked students at West Lane Elementary School about "acts of kindness" that they have received.

Jennifer Miller: "When I got hurt at recess, my friends went and told the teacher to come over and help me."

Kara Thompson: "A family friend was commissioned into the Air Force at a ceremony that we went to. He gave me an Air Force hat."

Ashley Amelunke: "We had a fire in our upstairs about two months ago. A lot of people helped us by bringing in blankets and clothing."

April Sanders: "We were playing and my baby brother fell and scraped his knee. My sister and friend came over and helped pick him up while I went to get my dad in the house."

Ashley Penny: "I flipped a four-wheeler and a guy who was nearby was nice enough to come over and help pick it up. He also told my uncle about it and that no one was hurt."
