The Southeast Missourian asked people about the attention surrounding a new home-run record in major league baseball.

Bob Deneke: "I've got tickets for the game tonight (Tuesday) that I ordered two weeks ago. It's one of those things people do. I think they overdo it, but I'm interested in seeing McGwire break the record."

Art Soellner: "I've been watching every ball game I can on TV for the last several weeks. It's exciting to see the enthusiasm the crowds have for baseball now, especially after the strike a few years ago."

Elvira Hendrickson: "All records should be broken eventually. We had the game on two TVs yesterday when McGwire hit the homer. My granddaughter and I cheered loud enough for my husband to hear us downstairs."

Ellouise Susa: "I think it's exciting. We're not baseball watchers, but we have been watching the past couple of games. We were out yesterday, but we caught the replay of McGwire's 61st home run."

Leon Everly: "I think it's great. I have paid more attention to baseball lately than I have in the past. I have followed the Cardinal games on TV and radio. It was pretty exciting when McGwire hit No. 61."
