Republican U.S. Senate candidate John Ashcroft will be in Cape Girardeau today on the final stop of a two-day kickoff for his general election campaign.
Ashcroft, who easily won the Republican nomination Tuesday, will be at the Cape Girardeau Public Library at 5 p.m. to discuss his agenda for the future with youngsters in the library's community room.
Several hours before the polls closed Tuesday, Ashcroft's staff hand-delivered letters to each of the major Democratic candidates challenging them to campaign in every Missouri county to demonstrate a commitment to represent all Missourians and to participate in a series of debates to "discuss openly our records and our proposals for the future."
U.S. Rep. Alan Wheat of Kansas City won the Democratic nomination Tuesday in a close race with Jackson County Executive Marsha Murphy.
Ashcroft completed his tour of the 114 Missouri counties last weekend.
