The Jackson Performing and Visual Arts Steering Committee recently met to discuss setting up an information booth at Jackson's July 4 celebration at the city park.
Committee members considered collecting signatures for a mailing list and having people fill out surveys during the celebration.
Parks and recreation director Shane Anderson said the main goal of the new committee is to bring people from Jackson together who love to perform and create.
The committee, a parks and recreation entity, also heard a request for having a moisture-free area roped off for a gallery where artists could sell their works at the celebration. There also was talk of a canopy for shade.
Members agreed to decide on a plan for Jackson Homecomers after the July 4 event could be evaluated.
Ideas for Homecomers centered on how artists could display their works at the five-day event. One suggestion was for a different arts display on each of the five days.
Other ideas were of finding an arts council building and working with high school art students.
Teachers would like to see group trips to museums offered, as well as recognition of student work.
A theater group has discussed tentative plans for two productions: A fall musical version of "Grease" and a Christmas production of "The Christmas Box."
At the June 20 meeting, the group will solidify plans for July 4, report on its working partnership with the high school and create a logo and name for the committee.
