China's Festival of Lanterns will be celebrated in an arts workshop for families from 9:30-11 a.m. Feb. 13 at Jefferson Elementary School gymnasium.

Part of the "Festivals, Families and the Arts" series, the program is designed for adults and children to participate together. Activities are suitable for children ages 10-13 accompanied by an adult.

"Festivals, Families and the Arts" are once-a-month programs held at local public schools. The programs explore the holidays of foreign countries by using hands-on art projects, speakers and music from each featured country.

Students from Southeast Missouri State University tell about their native countries and holidays at many of the programs.

Advance registration is required and a $1 admission per person will be collected at the door to cover needed materials.

The program is sponsored by the Southeast Missouri Council on the Arts.
