SCAD takes possession of new ambulance
The Stoddard County Ambulance District expects its new ambulance to be up and running within the next two weeks. The ambulance is now in the process of being stocked and equipped with radios, lettering and other necessities, said SCAD director David Cooper last week. Cooper said he believes the rig will be ready to hit the road within the next two weeks. Cooper said that there has also been talk of reverting to the use of regular gasoline because of new emissions equipment being installed on ambulances.

Housing project effort underway in Sikeston
Habitat for Humanity is taking root in Sikeston, Mo. Efforts to establish the organization here began with Karen Davis, chairwoman of the Sikeston Area Habitat for Humanity steering committee, when she found out about the Cape Area Habitat for Humanity chapter. "They offered to help us to have a build in Sikeston," Davis said. The target date to begin Sikeston's first Habitat home has been set for September, according to Davis. The Sikeston area Habitat for Humanity will operate independently with its own funding under the authorization of the Cape Area Habitat for Humanity chapter, a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization.
