Nursing home patient reported injured

Authorities are investigating a reported injury at the Caruthersville Nursing Center that allegedly occurred Dec. 7. Caruthersville police responded to a request from a family member of one of the nursing center's residents to investigate the matter. Chief Chris Riggs said the nursing center allegedly contacted the family member saying his relative was in at Pemiscot Memorial Hospital being treated for injuries. The hospital has begun its own investigation, Riggs said, adding that hospital sources indicated the center then reported the incident to the state, which also came in to investigate. Riggs said it became a criminal investigation when individuals allegedly failed to report the incident and take action.
