Area volunteers take time to work for Days of Caring

Southeast Missouri State University and the Volunteer Intergenerational Center collaborated to hold the 2003 Days of Caring from Sept. 22 to 27.

During this week of caring volunteers from businesses and the university took time out of their workdays to volunteer at Area Wide United Way agencies. This opportunity allowed individuals to not only give back but to learn more about how agencies affect people's lives and how donated dollars affect the community.

Wood and Huston Bank, St. Francis Medical Center and Auto Tire and Parts allowed employees to take time to work in the community serving meals, tutoring and making needed repairs.

Several Southeast Missouri State University students, as well as sororities and fraternities and clubs, also participated.

Agencies providing Days of Caring projects included the Family Resource Center, Boys and Girls Club, American Red Cross, Cape Senior Center and the Boy Scouts. In addition, University Days of Caring volunteers helped with the American Heart Association Heart Walk.
