A number of area teen-agers attend the American Legion Boys State of Missouri, held June 13-20 on the campus of Central Missouri State University at Warrensburg.
Those attending learned more about the workings of government through hands-on experience. It is run as a democracy, and all participants may vote and are eligible to hold office.
Among area boys participating were:
Shane Huff, son of Greg and Theresa Huff of Benton, attends Kelly High School. He is a member of the Student Council, SADD, Drum Major, band, secretary of the art club, Pep Club, Morley Baptist Youth Group. He holds a black belt in Tae Kwon Doe.
Kelly Michael White, 17, also attends Kelly High School. White is the son of David and Debbie Tarno of Sikeston. He is a member of Student Council, Pep Club, Beta Club, SADD and band.
Kevin Friedrich is the son of Vincent and Deanna Friedrich of Oak Ridge. The 17-year-old Oak Ridge High School student is active in band, Spanish Club, Pep Club, FHA, Science Club and attends Bethlehem General Baptist Church.
