Several area teen-agers are among 956 boys attending Boys State at Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg. The event began Saturday and ends this Saturday. Participants learn the insights of politics, from city to state government. They are put into cities and actually elect everything from a dog-catcher to a governor...

Several area teen-agers are among 956 boys attending Boys State at Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg. The event began Saturday and ends this Saturday.

Participants learn the insights of politics, from city to state government. They are put into cities and actually elect everything from a dog-catcher to a governor.

The boys also attend classes of their choice, including classes on law enforcement, municipal management and the news media. Some attend classes on how to become a lawyer.

Missouri Gov. Mel Carnahan and other state officials visited and spoke about their offices during the week.

Area participants are:

Joshua Tyler Lukefahr, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Lukefahr. He will be a senior at Jackson High School. He participates in JOCKS, J-Club, Chamber Choir and basketball. He has received superior and excellent ratings at the State Music Contest. He is a member of the First Baptist Church of Jackson. He is sponsored by Jackson Optimist Club.

Ben Keefe, son of Mike and Elizabeth Keefe. He will be a senior at Central High School. He is a member of St. Vincent de Paul Parish, Chamber Choir, Renaissance Club, varsity soccer, wrestling, track, and speech and debate. He is sponsored by the Knights of Columbus Council 1111.

Jeremy Driskell, son of Dan and Gerry Driskell. He will be a senior at Central High School. He belongs to the Beta Club and Spanish Club. He is listed in "Who's Who Among American High School Students" and bowls in the YABA League. He is sponsored by American Legion Post 88.

Justin Jones, son of Ken and Carol Jones. He is sponsored by the American Legion Post 63. He has been a member of the National Honor Society, Beta Club, Art Club and varsity soccer. Jones was also listed in "Who's Who" and is a member of St. Vincent de Paul Parish.

Ben Gosche, son of Ron and Linda Gosche. He attends Notre Dame High School. Gosche is a member of St. Vincent de Paul Parish. He participates in soccer, basketball and baseball. Gosche is sponsored by VFW Post 3838.

Shawn Nathan Koch, son of Bill and Libby Koch. He is a senior at Kelly High School. He is a member of the First Baptist Church at Scott City. He has participated in 4-H for six years and is a current member of the SEMO Rodeo Club. He also belongs to the Beta Club, Foreign Language Club, Future Farmers of America and Student Council. Koch plays Kelly basketball, baseball and cross country. He is sponsored by the Benton Chamber of Commerce.

Brian Gullette, son of Wesley and Linda Mangels, He is a senior at Cape Central High School. He is involved in varsity cross country, swimming and diving, Beta Club, National Honor Society, "Who's Who" and the March of Dimes walk. He has received the Attendance Award, Most Improved Award and Highest GPA Award. Gullette is sponsored by American Legion post 63.

Shawn Scharenborg, son of John and Kathryn Scharenborg of Jackson. Scharenborg attends Notre Dame High School. He is a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Parish of Jackson, National Honor Society, and participates in Optimist sports. He is sponsored by Knights of Columbus Council 1111.

Bobby Brune, son of Greg and Barbara Brune. He attends Central High School. He participates in Young Life, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, varsity football and basketball and Letterman's Club. Brune is sponsored by Cape Girardeau Lions Club.

Wade Russell, son of Keith and Margaret Russell. He attends Central High School. He won the DAR Award for Historical Excellence and will attend the World Affairs Seminar in Wisconsin. He is a member of the National Honor Society, choir and St. Vincent de Paul Parish. Russel is sponsored by the Cape Girardeau Rotary Club.

Mark Proffer, son of Bernard and Alice Proffer. He attends Jackson High School. He is a member of the First General Baptist Church of Jackson, Future Business Leaders of America, French Club, J-Club, cross country and track. Proffer is sponsored by the Jackson Rotary Club.

He is involved in the Future Business Leaders of America, Peer Tutors, is president of Spanish Club, captain of Scholar Bowl Team, speech team, ALERT and National Honor Society. He is sponsored by American Legion Post 158 of Jackson.

August Joseph Jacobs, son of Brian and Connie Ressel. He attends Scott City High School. He is a member of St. Augustine Catholic Parish of Kelso. He is involved in baseball, football, track, student council and National Honor Society. He is sponsored by Scott City Schools.

Jeff Mueller, son of Steve and Diane Mueller. He attends Notre Dame High School. Mueller is a member of St. Vincent de Paul Parish, National Honor Society, varsity basketball and Scholar Bowl. He plays the piano and is a liturgical accompanist at St. Vincent's. Mueller is sponsored by Knights of Columbus Council 1111.
