Area students tour Capitol during trip for Youth Leadership Day

More than 340 junior and senior high school students participated in Missouri Farm Bureau's annual Youth Leadership Day in Jefferson City on April 3.

During the seminar, Dr. Rick Hardy, associate professor of political science at the University of Missouri in Columbia, explained to students the role of government and the responsibilities of citizenship. Rep. Jack Jackson, R-Wildwood, also spoke to students about his role as a state representative. Elected in 2002, Jackson represents the 89th District in St. Louis County and serves on the Homeland Security and Veterans Affairs, Job Creation and Economic Development and Tourism and Cultural Affairs committees.

A highlight of the day was visiting the State Capitol where students had the opportunity to visit with their respective members of the House of Representatives and Senate and observe floor action from the galleries.

The event was sponsored by Missouri Farm Bureau Promotion and Education Programs.
