At Notre Dame, Berens has played on soccer and basketball teams. He is also a member of Future Business Leaders of America and is involved in the school's spring musical. He is the son of Paul and Carol Berens.

The World Affairs Seminar is a personalized educational program for high school students. It is designed to help students learn about the customs, traditions, aspirations, and heritage of people around the world through personal association.
