COLUMBIA -- Jennifer McMurry has been selected to participate in the McNair Achievement Program at the University of Missouri-Columbia.
The program brings in an elite group of students who conduct research and pursue scholarly activities with University of Missouri faculty members.
McMurry, a junior studying biology, graduated from Cape Girardeau Central High School in 1990.
At the University of Missouri, she participates in the Minority Achievement Program, an academic support program for academically talented minority students that encourages them to go on to graduate work. She will graduate in May 1994 and plans to pursue graduate work in biology.
The University of Missouri is one of the original 14 universities selected to develop the Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program, which was established by the U.S. Department of Education.
The program is named for astronaut and Challenger crew member Ronald E. McNair and was started to encourage college students to enroll in graduate studies.
