As summer winds down, area districts are gearing up for the first day of school with a variety of registration and meet-and-greet events for parents and students.

The first day of school is Aug. 11 in the Cape Girardeau, Jackson and Scott City school districts. In Perry County’s District 32, it’s Aug. 17.

In the Cape Girardeau School District, all new students are expected to be registered by Aug. 5, according to district information.

Between now and then, students may register from 12:30 to 4 p.m. at the district’s central office at 301 N. Clark Ave.

As is the case for other area school districts, students are asked to bring birth certificates, immunization records, Social Security cards, a parent photo ID and proof of residence, such as a utility bill or rental agreement.

Orientation sessions and Back-to-School Nights will happen at schools throughout the district between Aug. 1 and 18. Parents are encouraged to visit www.capetigers.com to check their child’s school calendar for dates and times.

New elementary school enrollees in the Jackson School District will register from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 2 at whichever school they are assigned to attend.

Middle-school, junior-high and high-school students who are new to the district are being asked to call the counselor’s office at the appropriate school Aug. 3 to make an appointment to register.

A variety of open-house events are planned for each school in the district, so parents and students may visit tinyurl.com/j5kku3z to find the correct time and date for their school.

The Scott City School District is holding student enrollment from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 3 at the main office at 3000 Main St. in Scott City.

On Aug. 9, the district will hold its annual Rams on the Lawn open house from 5 to 7 p.m. There, parents and students can meet teachers and administrators, sample refreshments and buy school-spirit and uniform items.
