The Missouri Department of Revenue expects to mail out tax refund checks to Southeast Missouri residents the week of Feb. 23.

Refund checks for taxpayers with zip codes ranging from 63367 to 63937 will be mailed that week.

Cape Girardeau area taxpayers can expect to receive refund checks about the middle of the week, said Revenue Department spokeswoman Kay Dinolfo.

The state began mailing out tax refunds Monday, sorted by zip code. In all, the department expects to mail out 2.4 million refund checks.

The process is expected to take about nine weeks, Dinolfo said.

The state is refunding $376 million to comply with the Hancock Amendment's limits on tax revenue.

The average refund will amount to $101. But many taxpayers will receive much smaller amounts, Dinolfo said.

Missouri expects to refund another $319 million to taxpayers this fall.
