JACKSON -- Four southeast Missourians are among this year's Ten Outstanding Young Missourians. Two are from Cape Girardeau and one each are from Jackson and Sikeston.
The awards were presented during the Missouri Jaycees Ten Outstanding Young Missourians Banquet last week at Lake of the Ozarks.
The Outstanding Young Missourians from Cape Girardeau are banker Narvol A. Randol, Jr. and television news anchor Anne Doyle Blim.
The Jackson winner is mayor and businessman Paul Sander. In Sikeston this year's winner is attorney Joe Blanton Jr.
Randol is vice president of commercial lending at Capital Bank of Cape Girardeau. He began his banking career in 1978 with Boatman's Bank of Cape Girardeau, formerly Farmers and Merchants Bank. In 1984 he joined Capital Bank.
Randol is actively involved in commercial business for the bank. He also organized and implemented a Community Consultant Board comprised of young professionals and civic leaders in Cape Girardeau County. He is the founder and co-owner of radio station WUEZ-FM, an easy-listening music station in Southern Illinois.
Randol is an adult leader with the former Southeast Missouri Council, now St. Louis Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America. As vice president of administration and treasurer of the Southeast Missouri Council, Randol was instrumental in the leadership of the youth services and development organization.
In addition to community service with the Scouts, Randol is a member of the Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club, Citizens Advisory Committee, the Public Library board, the Southeast Missouri Hospital Foundation, and the U.S. Postal Service Customer Council.
Randol and his wife, Amy, have two children, Shannon, 14, and Neil, 10.
Anne Doyle Blim is a 5 p.m. news co-anchor for KFVS-TV, the CBS affiliate in Cape Girardeau.
Doyle began her career during college at the Collage of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minn. Following graduation, Doyle became a full-time reporter, photographer, producer and weekend anchor at KAAL-TV in Austin, Minn.
In addition to her local anchor duties, Doyle is a health reporter for the station.
She has been involved in numerous volunteer campaigns for the American Cancer Society Residential Crusade, Easter Seals Telethon, American Red Cross, Mid-America Transplant Association, Arthritis Foundation, and the Kenny Rogers Cerebral Palsy Telethon.
Doyle and her husband, John Blim, live in Cape Girardeau.
Sander is president and co-owner of SEMO Sports and Specialties in Jackson. He served on the Jackson Board of Aldermen from 1986 until his election as mayor in 1993.
During the first six months of his term, the city purchased the former Jackson Exchange Bank building, which will be converted into a new city hall; Jackson's first Tourism Board was formed; and an employee of the month award was established.
Sander also participated in and supported the construction of the new Veterans of All Wars Memorial in Jackson's Brookside Park.
He assisted in the relief efforts during the flood of 1993 by helping establish a major sandbagging operation in Jackson.
Sander's service in civic organizations includes the Jackson Jaycees, Jackson Chamber of Commerce, Southeast Missouri Regional Commerce and Growth Association, University of Missouri Extension Council, and the Jackson Rotary Club.
Sander and his wife, Pamela, have two children, Sam, 5, and Spencer, 1.
Blanton is an attorney for the Sikeston law firm of Blanton, Rice, Sidwell and Ottinger. The firm was founded by Blanton's grandfather, Harry C. Blanton.
He graduated from the University of Virginia with a degree in economics, and received his law degree from the University of Texas at Austin, graduating in the top fourth of his class.
Most of Blanton's spare time has been spent working in a variety of community civic activities, including the Sikeston and Missouri Jaycees. He has served in a number of positions in both the local Jaycees chapter and at the state level. He is also a member of the Sikeston Rotary Club, serving in a number of capacities, including chairman of the club's annual Rotary Radio-Television Auction.
Blanton and his wife, Felecia, are expecting their first child in May.
Among the other 1994 Outstanding Young Missourians named at the Banquet was Missouri Attorney General Jay Nixon.
