AREA NATIVE SLECTED FOR NAVY PROGRAM

Floyd L. DaWalt, petty officer first class in the U.S. Navy, has been chosen to participate in the Enlisted Commissioning Program. He is the son of Jim and Jewell DaWalt of Jackson.

DaWalt was one of about 150 personnel chosen for the award. At the completion of the program, he will be commissioned as an officer.

He has served as a nuclear mechanic aboard two fast attack submarines. He has earned two Navy Achievement Medals in the past six years.

DaWalt will complete a criminal justice degree at the University of Memphis in 1996. He is married to the former Dante Santoni of Cape Girardeau. The couple has four daughters.
