CAPE GIRARDEAU -- Luke Balsamo, a graduate of Cape Central High School, has been accepted in the University of Rochester's "Take Five" program.
This program enables selected undergraduates to take a fifth year of study toward their bachelor's degree tuition-free.
Balsamo is majoring in biological sciences with a concentration in biochemistry at the university in Rochester, New York.
The "Take Five" program is designed to broaden the scope of undergraduate education by allowing students to explore new subjects, in areas ranging from Chaucer to calculus. It also permits students with a demanding schedule of course requirements to take electives or study abroad for a semester.
