Fire districts in Scott and southern Cape Girardeau counties will join forces to recruit people interested in becoming volunteer firefighters.

The recruiting campaign is to add new members and replace those people who have retired or moved from the area. The recruiting will run through May 31.

"This is our first recruiting program, and we encourage interested individuals to call," said John Sachen of the Delta Fire Protection District.

In general, people 18 and older and physically and mentally able to complete the state firefighter training programs are eligible. Applicants may be required to pass a background check.

Fire districts participating in recruiting are Delta, Oran, NBC, North Scott County, Whitewater, Chaffee and Scott City.

Interested people should call 651-1532 and leave their name and telephone number. A representative will call with information.
