Scorpions' streak ends at six victories

The Kohlfeld Scorpions rugby team's six-game winning streak was stopped Saturday by the St. Louis Bombers, who posted a 29-17 victory at Forest Park in St. Louis.

The Scorpions led 12-10 at halftime but had to play a man short after a high tackle penalty called early in the second half. The Bombers scored three times in the second half for the win.

Marc Harris was named offensive player of the match for the Scorpions, while Chris Peart was named defensive player of the match.

The Scorpions next play a sanctioned Missouri Cup match against the St. Louis Royals on Saturday at Forest Park.

Threesome wins Cape couples play

Roger and Deb Mealy teamed with Bill White Sr. to capture the first flight honors in the Cape Girardeay Country Club Friday Night Couples play last week.

Ron and Priscilla Kirby and Jim and Laura Raden also were first flight winners.

Ron and Dana Underwood teamed with Billy and Brenda White to earn second flight honors. Leon and Mary Jane Eftink and Mel and Shirley Moore also were second flight winners.

Cape Ladies Day opens with three-lady scramble

Joyce Kuntze, Mary Alice Regenhardt and Leslie Steele teamed up to win first place in the three-lady scramble on April 14 at the Cape Girardeau Country Club. Second-place honors were claimed by Edna Ruth Fischer, Deb Mealy and Pat Strom.

Closest-to-the-pin honors went to: Vicki McKinney on No. 2; Marlena Jones, No. 6; Linda Tewis, No. 8; Mealy, No. 11; Keiko Fujiwara, No. 13; and Lisa Williams, No. 16.

Three tie in Chip-A-Ways play of the day

Lil Angle, Mary Van Cleve and Carol Brocon tied for first in the Cape Chip-A-Ways play of the day Tuesday at Cape Jaycee Municipal Golf Course. Linda Williams won the A flight. Evelyn Riley won the B flight. Carolyn Blechle had the low putts.

Marathon information

Kristie Milam of Kelso was inadvertently omitted from the list of runners in the St. Louis Marathon half-marathon results in Wednesday's edition. Kelso finished 2,609th, finishing in 2 hours, 24 minutes and 15 seconds. Her chip time -- from crossing the starting line to the finish -- was 2:19:22.
