Cape municipal band to perform today

The Cape Girardeau Municipal Band will hold its weekly concert at 8 p.m. today at the Capaha Park Band Shell. The theme for the concert is SEMO Music Camp. In case of rain, the concert will be held at Academic Auditorium. Steve Schaffner will provide special entertainment. The band will play "March Lamar," "An American Elegy," "Holiday for Winds," "The Belle of Chicago March," sounds from Kenny Rogers, selections from "The Wiz," and "The High School Cadets March."

Farmers market to hold cooking demonstration

The Cape Alternative Farmers Market is holding a cooking demonstration at 10:30 a.m. today at Arena Park. Chef Dewayne Schaaf from Celebrations will prepare foods using items available at the market. The market sells locally grown and produced items like vegetables, gourmet canned items, fresh herbs and soaps and sundries. The market is open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. each Wednesday.

Sikeston boy stable after accidental shooting

SIKESTON, Mo. -- A 15-year-old boy is in stable condition after an accidental shooting Monday, according to Sikeston police. Police responded to a 911 call from an apartment on Montgomery Street at 4:53 p.m. The victim told police that the shooter, also a 15-year-old boy, was showing him the gun when it fired. The victim was hit in the lower left abdomen, and he underwent surgery at Missouri Delta Medical Center. The shooter was arrested for the unlawful use of a weapon.
