JEFFERSON CITY -- An additional $30 million has been awarded to 80 communities for flood recovery projects, Gov. Mel Carnahan's office announced Tuesday.
The grants from the state Department of Economic Development include $753,500 to Whitewater for water-related projects and $342,250 to Scott City for economic development.
Cape Girardeau County will receive $187,000 for economic development and $30,500 for water-related projects. The city of Cape Girardeau was awarded $75,500 for economic development.
The money represents the balance of the $97 million in Community Development Block Grant funds provided to the state to assist flood-damaged cities and counties. Included are grants for residential and commercial buyoutprojects, infrastructure replacement or protection projects and economic development assistance projects.
Other grants include $63,750 to Mississippi County for economic development, $261,000 to St. Mary in Ste Genevieve County for commercial buyout, and more than $2 million to Park Hills in St. Francois County for commercial buyout.
