Many area churches will have worship services or dramas for Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Sunday.
Maundy Thursday
Centenary United Methodist Church will host a worship and drama service Maundy Thursday at 7 p.m. on "Women of Courage." The service will look at the role of women in Jesus' life. It includes communion.
A communitywide service for Maundy Thursday will be held at First Presbyterian Church Thursday at 7 p.m. Several soloists and members of the church choir will present "Seven Last Words of Christ." The Rev. Alan Oakley will serve communion.
Christ Presbyterian Church will have a "Service of Shadows" for Maundy Thursday. The service will be at 7 p.m. at the Education Center in St. Francis Medical Center.
Hobbs United Methodist Chapel will have a Maundy Thursday service at 7 p.m.
First Presbyterian Church in Jackson will hold a Maundy Thursday service with communion at 7 p.m.
Good Shepherd Lutheran Chapel will hold a Passover Seder service as part of Maundy Thursday worship at 7 p.m.
Christ Episcopal Church will hold a holy eucharist service Maundy Thursday at 7 p.m.
Good Friday
The Jackson Ministerial Alliance will host a Good Friday worship service at New McKendree United Methodist Church. The Rev. Jim Lyon will speak at the 12:10 p.m. service.
Good Shepherd Lutheran Chapel will hold a Good Friday service at 7 p.m.
Christ Episcopal Church will hold a Good Friday service at 7 p.m. The great vigil of Easter will be presented at 7 p.m. Saturday.
Easter Sunday
Fairview General Baptist Church near Advance will hold a sunrise service at 6:30 a.m. Easter Sunday. Breakfast will be served after the service.
Church of Jesus Christ in Jackson will have an Easter service at Main Street Fitness Community Room at 10 a.m.
Hobbs United Methodist Chapel will have a sunrise service at 6 a.m. with a continental breakfast following. Worship services also will be at 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. An Easter egg hunt begins at 7:30 a.m.
Bald Knob Cross near Alto Pass, Ill., will hold its 63rd annual sunrise service beginning at 6:30 a.m. Easter Sunday. The Rev. Larry Johnson will speak. A breakfast will be served beginning at 4 a.m. For information, call (618) 893-2344 or (618) 893-2170.
First Presbyterian Church in Jackson will hold several Easter services. A sunrise service begins at 6:30 a.m. at Bent Creek Clubhouse, with a sermon titled "Permission to Hope." A Sunday School program will be performed at 9 a.m. in the church fellowship hall. An Easter celebration service will be held at 10 a.m.
Good Shepherd Lutheran Chapel will celebrate Easter with a 6:30 a.m. sunrise service and a 10 a.m. festival service. Special music will be performed during both services.
Christ Episcopal Church will hold an Easter service at 10:15 a.m., with holy eucharist.
