The American Legion posts in Cape Girardeau and Jackson will hold Memorial Day services Monday, and the public is invited to attend.
The Cape Girardeau service begins at 10:30 a.m. at the Osage Community Centre and includes band performances. The Joint Veterans Council, not Post 63, as originally reported, is sponsoring the event.
Services in Jackson will begin at 9 a.m. at the entrance to the Jackson City Cemetery. The Jackson Municipal Band will perform, and the speaker will be Teresa Popp, an Air Force veteran from Jackson. A plaque, engraved with the names of about 240 local men who died in combat from World War I to the present, will be unveiled.
Post 158 will also place flags on the graves of about 1,100 veterans in Jackson.
