Scott City Mayor Tim Porch announced a resolution at Monday's city council meeting proclaiming April as Donate Life Month.
"The city council recognizes the valuable service donors make and ... commends the generous gift of life provided by individuals who indicate their wish to become an organ donor," he read from the proclamation.
One organ donor can save the lives of eight people and enhance the lives of up to another 50, Porch said, and the council acknowledges the grief families feel after losing a loved one, but still choose to donate.
"The city council recognizes the local families of Kaden Robert, Nick Holt and Dominic Hooper, who generously, in their time of grief, made the decision to donate to life, and the city council salutes all individuals who have helped to give the gift of life by supporting, promoting, and encouraging organ donation," Porch said.
After naming April as Donate Life Month, Porch specified the third Friday in April as Organ Donation Day and encouraged residents of Scott City to wear blue and green in observance.
After reading his resolution, Porch looked up from his notes, nodded to the three attendees who came for the reading of the resolution and said, "[Donating] does touch 50 lives, and that's truly amazing. If there is anything we can do for you, please just let us know."
