CAPE GIRARDEAU -- An appreciation reception for Dr. Arthur Turner, superintendent of Cape Girardeau Public Schools, will be held March 10 at the Show Me Center meeting room.
The reception is sponsored by the Cape Girardeau Community Teachers Association. Turner will be leaving the district at the end of the school year. His contract was not renewed by the Board of Education.
The program will be held from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. and is open to the public.
Mary Ann Pensel, chairman of the CTA committee planning the reception, said, "We hope staff members and former staff members of the Cape Public Schools, community members and education colleagues will attend.
"We are hosting this reception to express our appreciation for Dr. Turner's 16 years of service," Pensel said.
"Dr. Turner has been very, very supportive of the CTA. He has attended meetings and been concerned about CTA issues," she said.
"He has been a real trooper for the CTA and the MSTA."
Staff and students from the school's music program will provide entertainment.
