"Communication Resolutions for the New Millennium" will be the topic of the fourth annual Joseph H. Low Jr. Lecture on April 21 at Southeast Missouri State University.
Dr. Michael Osborn, past president of the National Communication Association, will speak at the event, slated for 7 p.m. in the University Center Ballroom.
Osborn is professor emeritus at the University of Memphis. He came to Memphis in 1966 after teaching at the American University and the University of Iowa.
Dr. Tom Harte, chairman of the speech communication and theatre department at Southeast, said Osborn is a leading figure in the field of speech communication.
Osborn chaired the communication department at the University of Memphis for eight years. During his tenure, he was recognized as having one of the top four master of arts degree programs in communication in the country.
In 1970 Osborn was the Democratic congressional nominee for Tennessee's 9th District. In 1995, he was appointed to a three-year term on the Tennessee Humanities Council, where he chairs the committee on grants and outreach.
He retired from the University of Memphis in 1995.
The annual Low Lecture was created in 1995 by Low's mother, Mildred I. low, through an endowment in her son's name for the department of speech communication and theatre at Southeast.
