JACKSON, Mo. -- The annual Girl Scout Festival of Lights will be held from 6-7 p.m. Monday on the lawn of the Cape Girardeau County Courthouse.

Luminaries made by the Girl Scouts and the lights surrounding the courthouse will be lit to start off the holiday season in the city.

Girl Scouts will sing Christmas carols at 6:15 p.m. Hot chocolate and cookies will be served. Santa Claus will make an appearance. Socks, underwear, hats, gloves and mittens for children and adults will be collected for the Elks Christmas Basket project, which serves needy families in the area.

In case of bad weather, the event will be held at the same time Tuesday.

The festival is sponsored by the Tsalagi Service Unit of the Girl Scouts of Otahki Council. The unit serves girls who live in the Jackson and Oak Ridge school districts.
