WARE, Ill. -- An Anna woman died Sunday in a two-car accident on Highway 3.
The accident occurred at 1:55 p.m., approximately three miles south of Ware.
Betty Lingle, 79, was taken by helicopter to Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau, where she was pronounced dead at 2:55 p.m.
Illinois State Police gave this account:
A vehicle driven by Christopher S. Bevis, 20, of Harrisburg was following a vehicle driven by Barbara B. Lair, 70, of Jonesboro. Both were northbound.
Bevis' vehicle struck Lair's from behind, causing her vehicle to leave the roadway and strike a tree.
Lingle, a passenger in Lair's vehicle, was not wearing a seat belt.
Both Bevis and Lair suffered minor injuries.
