ANNA, Ill. -- Steve Hartline was elected to a second term as Anna mayor during balloting in the Union County election in Southern Illinois Tuesday. ANNA, Ill. -- Steve Hartline was elected to a second term as Anna mayor during balloting in the Union County election in Southern Illinois Tuesday.

Hartline, an executive with the Illinois Department of Human Services, collected 956 votes to defeat challenger Allen W. James, who finished with 433 votes.

Glenn Rosson and Dave Tellor led a field of eight candidates in balloting for Anna city commissioners. Rosson polled 727 votes, and Tellor was only one back. Also elected commissioners were Lawrence J. Boyer with 637 votes and Alan Robert with 618.

Other commissioner candidates and their vote totals: Stephen F. Westbrooks, 598; Robert Hunters, 564; Jerry W. Isom, 479; and Steve Craig, 391.

Only one other municipal race was contested in Union County Tuesday.

Larry Hackethal led balloting in a four-person race for three Cobden trustee positions, with 164 votes. Also elected were Patrick C. Brumleve, with 159 votes, and Dee Shadowens, 145. Paul "Doc" Dubois had 110 votes.

Elsewhere, races were uncontested.

Elected uncontested for Jonesboro aldermen were Bruce B. Bauer, 61 votes, in Ward 1; Archie G. Hazel, 63, in Ward 2; and Willard McCann, 25 votes, in Ward 3.

Three unopposed candidates were elected village trustees at Dongola, -- Shaun Aden, with 72 votes; Kevin Cox, 71; and Patrick Ferguson, 65.

Two candidates were unopposed for trustees at Mill Creek -- Mildred Garner with 11 votes and Linda Turner with 10.

Filling two full-term positions for Alto Pass trustees were James S. Hammer, 48 votes, and Jerry Heidlebaugh, 41. Also elected for unexpired two-year terms were Kevin Bryant with 50 votes, and Henry J. Konzelmann, 47.

School board elections were contested for Jonesboro District 43 and Ann-Jonesboro Community High District 81, with three of four candidates elected in each district.

For the A-J High School board, Janet E. Mixen led the balloting with 1,413 votes. Also elected were Dean Corbit with 1,301 votes and Brandon Wright, 1,261. Randy Schafer fnished fourth in the balloting at 1,246 votes.

Jon Housman led the Jonesboro district voting with 203 votes, followed by Richard Cunningham, 191, and Tom Sherill, 191. William Ecker Jr. finished fourth in the balloting, with 157 votes.
