Animals seized in Missouri raid go to welfare groups

NEOSHO, Mo. -- A Newton County judge has awarded custody of more than 200 dogs, a cat and a Bengal tiger to two different animal welfare groups.
The animals were taken last month from dog breeder Margaret Jewel Bond during a raid at her property near the southwest Missouri town of Seneca.
The Joplin Globe reported Circuit Judge Tim Perigo took custody of the animals away from Bond during a hearing Monday.

The dogs and one cat will go to the Humane Society of Missouri, where they can be put up for adoption.
The tiger, Sheena, will go to the National Tiger Sanctuary near St. Louis.
Bond acknowledged the kennel was dirty and said her own health problems kept her from attending to the animals' needs.
She said she loved her puppies and dogs "like my children."
