PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Two St. Louis-area men facing felony theft and other charges for allegedly attempting to steal anhydrous ammonia were bound over to circuit court for a second appearance after a preliminary hearing Tuesday.
Donald E. Mauzy, 35, of High Ridge, Mo., and Nicklas W. Harris, 38, of Eureka, Mo., are scheduled to appear in court again Aug. 19. Mauzy is charged with felony theft of anhydrous ammonia, felony resisting arrest, felony possession of anhydrous ammonia in an unapproved container and misdemeanor trespassing. Harris is charged with felony theft of anhydrous ammonia, possession of a controlled substance and failure to drive on the right side of the road.
Another man, Tracy D. Hyden, 45, of St. Louis, faces the same charges as Mauzy. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 23 in Perry County.
According to a news release from the Perry County Sheriff's Department, Mauzy, Harris, and Hyden were allegedly caught attempting to steal anhydrous ammonia from a storage tank at a farm on Route M on June 13.
Deputies were assigned to survey the farm for suspicious activity after receiving tips on ammonia thefts. Hyden and Mauzy were
allegedly spotted by deputies trying to leave the
area on foot and were arrested. Harris was arrested after deputies found him driving nearby.
