ST. LOUIS (AP) -- Shares of Anheuser-Busch rise sharply on reports that Europe's InBev SA is working on a $46 billion bid for the St. Louis-based brewer.
Anheuser-Busch shares were up 8.1 percent, or $4.28, to $56.86 in Friday morning trading following the report on the Financial Times Web site. At one point, the price hit an all-time high of $58.
Anheuser-Busch says it does not comment on rumors. InBev did not return a message seeking comment.
InBev is the world's biggest brewer by volume and makes Beck's, Brahma, Stella Artois and Skol beer. Reports of its interest in Anheuser-Busch have circulated for months.
Anheuser-Busch makes America's best selling full-calorie and light beers, Budweiser and Bud Light. The company has an estimated 50.9 percent domestic market share.
