ST. LOUIS -- American Airlines said it will furlough 766 ticket agents, including 150 at Lambert Airport.
Officials with American and its TWA Airlines subsidiary said the furloughed employees will have to choose between six months off or a different job. The company cited the economic downturn for the industry following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks for the cuts.
A spokeswoman said the workers have two options: Take six months leave while keeping benefits and seniority, or take jobs as security screeners.
