American Superstores opened its new Cape Girardeau facility Saturday.
Bernard Chaudoir, sales manager of the Cape Girardeau store, said the new business, located at 201 S. Broadview, will be open six days a week.
Hours for the store will be 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
"We will open on Sunday during the Christmas holiday shopping season," said Chaudoir.
The Cape Girardeau store is the second for American Superstores, which is a part of Nationwide, a television and appliance group that has more than 1,400 stores across the nation, with sales in excess of $3.5 billion.
Marion Tibbs, general manager of the Poplar Bluff-based company, said that American features authorized sales and service for virtually all major brands of video, appliances, audio equipment and electronics. In addition, American is a dealer for several major lines of furniture and bedding.
The building at 201 S. Broadview was sold last month to Dr. Jerry McLane of Poplar Bluff by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. office in Rosemont, Ill., as part of a settlement for the now-defunct Exchange Bank. McLane leased the structure to American Superstores.
The property includes the building and 8.01 acres; it was valued by the FDIC at $1,185,250.
The building, situated in the Cape Girardeau Centre, formerly housed Storey's Food Giant grocery store, which leased the structure until March 1, 1992.
