The American Legion is seeking help to support its American Legacy Scholarship.
The scholarship was established for children of servicemen and women killed while serving with the U.S. military on or after Sept. 11, 2001.
The federal educational benefit available to surviving children will pay little more than half of what a college education costs in the most affordable category. The gap grows greater when the future cost of a college education is estimated to increase by 5 percent a year.
