Thirteen homes in south Cape Girardeau went without power for a few hours Monday as Ameren Missouri replaced a transformer. A crew was dispatched about 1 p.m. to the 1200 block of South Sprigg Street to replace a transformer off Hickory Street, said Ameren superintendant Russell Burger. The company's engineering department had identified the transformer as being overloaded and in need of replacement. Burger said Ameren was replacing the transformer in the day instead of having it malfunction in the middle of the night.
