JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- Ameren Missouri customers soon likely will pay about $7 less on their monthly bill.

The Missouri Public Services Commission has approved a move by the largest electric utility in Missouri to lower its energy efficiency charge starting Jan. 27.

The commission regulates utilities such as electric and natural gas companies.

The commission said the adjustment will mean typical residential customers pay about $7.27 less a month.

Ameren Missouri has about 1.2 million customers in the state.
