The December meeting of the American Legion Post #158 was called to order by Commander Seabaugh, at 8 p.m.

The Color Guard advanced the colors, Chaplain Boyd Summers, gave the opening prayer. The pledge of allegiance to the flag, and the preamble of the American Legion Constitution were recited in unison by the 43 members present.

Minutes of the November 1999 meeting were approved as printed.

Program: Ms. Kelly Shields is this years county winner of the American Legion Oratorical contest.

She gave her speech the 43 members present. Ms. Shields did an outstanding job and will represent Cape Girardeau

County at the district competition in Poplar Bluff

Financial Report: Mike Proctor Report approved as read.

Membership: Lloyd Law -- Membership stands at 537 for the year 2000. Please get your dues in, they become delinquent as of Jan. 1.

Graves Information: Glen Bollinger -- No report

Trustee: Harlen Siebert -- Commented on the fact the hall floor had been waxed. Motion to purchase five new fire extinguishers. Motion carried

Welfare-Club Room/Hospital: Bill Poe -- Report approved as read. Request was made for a final accounting of Homecomers activities, to be given at January meeting.

Post Flag Information: Carlton Meyer. Reported on flags given to the Jackson Senior High and South Elementary during the past month.

Americanism Committee: Charles Hutson -- Past Commanders meeting will be at Jer's on Jan. 19 at 6:30 p.m. Second reading of the motion m e to be a corporate sponsor for the Veterans Home golf tournament in June. The cost would ad be $1,500. Motion carried.

House Report: Leon Laurentius -- Approved as read. House is very busy during December!

Honor Guard: Bill Sullivan: -- The Post Honor Guard lead the Christmas Parade. Reported on services held during the month. A new member was inducted, Rusty Niswonger.

Public Relations: Jim Nelson -- Contributions made to the American Legion Post 158 Memorial Scholarship Fund during the past month. In memory of Ed McClary

Bingo Mike Hyson -- Bingo report approved as read. Bingo workers will have a meeting at Jer's Dec. 16 at 6 p.m. The Commander has appointed a one new Co-Chair for Bingo. He is still looking for a second Co-Chair. Anyone interested in the position, contact the commander at 243-3630.

New Business: A motion was made to host the May, 2000 district meeting. Motion carried A motion was made to allow die Jackson Park Board to use the hall for a monthly Senior Citizens meeting on the fourth Wednesday of each month from 2-4 p.m. Motion carried. A motion was made to allow Camp SEMO to use the hall on March 17. Motion carried.

REMINDER: Santa will be at the Legion Hall from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 19.

Drawing: Cecil Brotherton's name was drawn for the "pot" of $38.50. Not present.

Color Guard retired the Colors. Chaplain Boyd Summers gave closing prayer. Closed the meeting at 9:05 p.m.
