A Cape Girardeau man remained in custody at the county sheriff's department Monday after being charged with first-degree robbery and felony armed criminal action in connection with an incident Sunday at Dollar General.
Tyler O. Johnson, 23, is being held on a $100,000 surety bond, Cape Girardeau Police Department spokesman Darin Hickey said.
About 8 a.m. Sunday, police responded to the store at 64 S. Plaza Way regarding a robbery in progress. Officers spoke to a clerk who said a man entered the store displaying a handgun, according to a news release.
Hickey said the clerk tried to walk away from the cash register and the suspect escorted him back at gunpoint.
The clerk was not hurt in the incident, but the suspect made off with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Johnson was identified and taken into custody with help from the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
