JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) -- An assistant prosecutor is appointed to a judgeship in Clay County.

Gov. Matt Blunt has picked Shane Alexander to take over for Clay County Circuit Judge Michael Maloney, who retired.

Alexander, of Smithville, is the chief assistant prosecuting attorney in Clay County and also serves as municipal judge in Excelsior Springs.

He received his law degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City.

Under Missouri's judicial selection process, a special panel submits three nominees to the governor. The other two finalists were associate circuit judge Donald Norris and Liberty attorney Steven Wolcott.
