The long-awaited terminal building renovation project at the Cape Girardeau Municipal Airport is virtually finished, with all the building's tenants moved into the remodeled facility.
The terminal building will be the site for a reception June 24 for Randy Holdman, the new airport manager.
Holdman, with 20 years of experience in airport management with the Air Force and as the owner of a private air service, replaces Mark Seesing.
Seesing resigned this spring to take over operations of Cape Central Airways at the airport.
The new terminal building features more open space than the old building and includes windows facing the airfield.
The facility includes a covered passenger loading and unloading area and a business service center complete with copy machine, facsimile machine, computer and work area for business travelers.
The city has yet to secure an operator for the airport restaurant and lounge, which includes a meeting room and seating for more than 100 people.
Public Works Director Doug Leslie said there are prospects for the restaurant contract, but an agreement is pending.
Hertz and National car rental agencies have new facilities and the airport gift shop has been expanded.
In conjunction with the new building, the city will embark on an advertising program with local media to promote the airport and its services.
Also, officials are asking the city's travel agents to become involved in promoting flights out of Cape Girardeau.
Trans World Express provides airline service between Cape Girardeau and St. Louis, where travelers can pick up connecting flights to airports throughout the country.
