A committee is being established by the Area Wide United Way to distribute its half of the money raised during the YELL for Newspapers promotion last month.
About $9,000 will be available for programs that involve youth, education, literacy and learning.
The other half of the money raised through sales of YELL newspapers supports the Southeast Missourian's Newspaper In Education Program, which delivers about 7,000 newspapers to area schools each week.
Agencies providing programs for youth with an emphasis on literacy that are interested in obtaining YELL funds should submit an application for YELL Allocations Committee, P.O. Box 562, Cape Girardeau before Oct. 30.
Information should include a brief, general description of the program, the target audience and age, program objectives and the total cost of the program along with a cost breakdown.
Programs may be new or expansions of existing programs.
