BLOOMFIELD, Mo. -- An Advance man charged with a March rape and abduction from a local bar is set to appear in court May 16.

Steven Clark Rendleman, 51, has been charged with felony forcible rape with aggravating acts and forcible sodomy, felony kidnapping, felonious restraint, two counts of first-degree felony assault of a law enforcement officer, felony property damage and felony resisting arrest.

Rendleman, through his attorney, waived his preliminary hearing originally scheduled for Thursday afternoon and was bound over.

Rendleman was arrested when police were alerted to a potential abduction from Charley Brown's bar in Advance. Stoddard County Sheriff's Deputy Tim McCoy pulled into a rural Advance cemetery where he found Rendelman and the victim. The victim ran to the police car and a car chase ensued that involved several gun shots fired by officers. After multiple attempts to subdue Rendelman with a stun gun, he eventually gave up.

Judge Joe Z. Satterfield allowed Rendelman no bond, arguing that he is a "danger to the community."

Stoddard County Prosecuting Attorney Russell Oliver announced he will seek a sentence of life without the possibility of parole, due to Rendelman's multiple prior rape convictions in Stoddard and Cape Girardeau counties.
