Adult Scouts to receive highest award

Tony Smee and David Giles, both of Cape Girardeau, will attend the Boy Scout Council's annual dinner to be honored with the Silver Beaver Award, the highest recognition a Boy Scout Council can bestow on an adult volunteer.

Smee is the vice president and general manager of ServiceMaster PCS and KMC Construction. He was recently elected as a member of the board of directors of Cape Girardeau School Board. Smee received the Shawnee District Award of Merit and several training awards. He has served on seven Wood Badge advanced leadership training staffs in the past decade. He is an Eagle Scout and Vigil Honor member of the Order of the Arrow.

Giles, a retired Cape Girardeau educator of 31 years, also volunteered as a police officer for more than 30 years and retired as the chief of the police reserve of Cape Girardeau. He is the chairman of elders at Abbey Road Christian Church, where he is an active member. Giles is a U.S. Army veteran.

He received the district's Award of Merit, is a Vigil Honor member of the Order of the Arrow and received the Founder's Award.

Giles is the district's commissioner and assistant Scoutmaster of Troop 4021. He was his Order of the Arrow Chapter's adult advisor and served on the summer camp staff. He leads the Camp Lewallen Quartermaster Corps and helps plan and participate in Adventure Days activities.
