Young people interested in learning the game of water polo are invited to take lessons beginning Saturday at the Cape Girardeau Central Municipal Pool.

For $20 a month, young men and women will be taught the ins and outs of water polo, separated in two ages groups: ages 10-13 and ages 14 and up.

The younger group will meet from 10-11:30 a.m. every Saturday; those over the age of 14 will practice from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays.

Randy Barnhouse, aquatics supervisor of Cape Girardeau, said two coaches from St. Louis have been hired to teach the sessions. Both are water polo players.

Barnhouse hopes that after the young people become good at water polo, the classes will be broken up into teams for tournament play.

For more information or to sign up for the classes, call the Cape Central Pool at 335-4040 or the A.C. Brase Arena Building at 335-5421.

Just when you thought the summer was over and days of beach parties and lazy Saturday evenings were over for the year, Barnhouse and his crew have planned one last summer blast for teen-agers.

On Saturday, Oct. 16, area teen-agers are invited to come to the event, which will include can-opener and cannonball splash contests, a limbo contest, a "muscle" competition for girls and boys, a light show and sound system operated by a local disc jockey and refreshments.

There will be a $3 cover charge for the blast, which will last from 7-10 p.m.

"We'd like everyone to dress as beach bums and in traditional `beach dress,'" Barnhouse said.
