David Kim, a native of Carbondale, Ill., will perform at the River Campus tonight as part of the Fourth Annual Southern Illinois Music Festival. The violinist will perform in conjunction with the Chicago Chamber Orchestra.
Kim attended the Juilliard School in New York City where he received his bachelor's and master's degrees. He was the only American to receive a prize in the International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow, Russia, in 1986. In 1990, he received an award at the International Violin Competition in Indianapolis, Ind.
Kim is a guest performer tonight; he is usually the concert master for the Philadelphia Orchestra. The orchestra will perform Rossini's Overture to Semiramide, Symphony No. 96 ("Miracle") by Haydn and Scottish Fantasy by Bruch. Kim will perform a solo during the Scottish Fantasy.
The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. and tickets are $15.
