A Kansas City man and a Poplar Bluff man died after two separate auto accidents just hours apart in Southeast Missouri Wednesday and Thursday.
William Paul, 77, of Kansas City, died after an accident seven miles west of Jackson on Highway 72.
He was driving his car westbound on Highway 72 at 10 p.m. Wednesday when he crossed the center line and crashed head-on into a car driven eastbound by Edward Moore, 53, of Sedgewickville, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
"He came around the corner, and the man was on his side of the road," said Remynda Moore, sister-in-law of Edward Moore. "He didn't have no chance. He got over as far as he could."
An ambulance took Moore to St. Francis Hospital, where he had surgery on his foot.
Much of Moore's foot was crushed. Moore had his seatbelt on, and "he feels the air bag saved his life," his sister-in-law said.
He was still in the hospital Thursday evening.
In the other accident, Bobby Clubb, 61, of Poplar Bluff, was southbound on Route 61 two miles south of Poplar Bluff at 12:35 a.m. Thursday when his car ran off the road and overturned, according to the highway patrol.
Clubb was not wearing a seat belt. He was ejected and fatally injured.
